Sweet & Spicy Seared Tuna

Sweet & Spicy Seared Tuna

This recipe was shared as part of my Quick Dinner series on Instagram. These dinners can be made with minimal ingredients, using what I keep stocked in my kitchen.

Dinner for two or one with just enough leftover for lunch the next day. I may be saying this more frequently since “staying home” has been extended. This Sweet & Spicy Seared Tuna Steak recipe gets dinner on the table in a jiffy without sacrificing flavor or the decadence of dinner.

The best part about this recipe is your family or friends may just be referring to you as “chef” after they get a taste of their tuna steak. And, when they do, stick your chest out, beam with glee, and accept that you just whipped a fine dinner for exceptional dining experience.

Ingredients

  • 2 Ahi tuna steaks
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sesame
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 Tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Whisk until mixed well.

  2. Pour over tuna steaks, covering both sides and allow to marinate for 30 minutes in the refrigerator. Remove from refrigerator and allow to sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before cooking.

  3. Melt butter in a cast iron over high heat. Sear tuna steaks for 2 minutes on each side

  4. Best served hot with garlic brown rice, sauté shredded cabbage, and/or roasted asparagus.

  5. Tip: To sauté cabbage using the same skillet, melt a tablespoon of butter in the cast iron and deglaze with white wine. Add cabbage to skillet, and cook for 2-3 minutes.
